Developed for use in freestyle, Super-X or general flat-water use, it is a relatively compact foil, with a short luff and boom length. There are three sizes in the range (5.8, 6.4 and 7.0), each of which can be used on a 430cm mast, and unlike the Blade, the S2 rigs with no pre-shape in the foil, making it easy to find the correct set. Whilst the graphics of the S2 are visually eye-catching on the water, it is equally impressive close up, with good attention to detail throughout. In addition, the Severne package is finished with one of the most elaborate, professional sailbags we have ever seen, housing the Allen-key batten tensioner that doubles up as a bottle-opener! On the water, the S2 proved to be one of the most versatile sails on test here, being happy when used in any role, from straight-line blasting to being thrown around in freestyle manoeuvres. Its most noticeable attribute though is the handling – throughout its extensive wind range, the S2 remains supremely light and neutral in the hands, even when overpowered. The centre of effort is around head height and locked in towards the front of the foil, whereas the clew of the S2 is also rather high, making the rider sit in their harness and commit more weight through the rig. As such, the stance it encourages the rider to adopt can either be upright and over the board, or locked down, driving off the fin. In transition, the S2’s excellent handling comes into play once again, making it applicable for anything, from learning your first planing manoeuvre to trying the latest freestyle trick, A truly diverse foil, it could partner any style of board, from the efficient freerace platform to the manoeuvre-oriented light-wind wave-board. Verdict The S2 is an incredibly versatile sail, remaining light and balanced in the hands throughout its wind range. It comes highly recommended. Intermediate: Steady power delivery and easy handling make it ideal. Expert: Would suit any discipline, having superior manners at all times.
