Severne NCX 7.0M ::

Severne's freeride sails are developed directly by Ben Severne and Jasper Orth, the NCX being their primary no-cam freeride sail, designed to bring more life and response to this style of sail. The build is minimalist, but with good quality and enough reinforcement to make the sail durable, whilst keeping the physical weight to a minimum. The moulded detailing on the tack as well as the heavy-duty downhaul roller are effective and professional touches. The NCX rigs with plenty of fullness in the body of the foil, giving you a wide tuning option through both downhaul and outhaul settings. Once up and running, the sail has a tight and direct feel that gives a great deal of feedback to the rider, without feeling twitchy. There is a fantastically light and easy nature to the sail, making it feel far more like a 6.Om than a 7.0m. Although its natural wind range is not exceptional, the NCX's tuneable wind range is very impressive, allowing you to trim it for different uses. Whilst slightly technical in this respect, the NCX is extremely versatile and provides you with room to experiment, applicable for widestyle boards and light winds through to high wind fast freeride boards. The NCX's trump-card is without a doubt its handling, being one of the lightest, most balanced sails in test. It has freemove levels of manoeuvrability, whilst maintaining freeride levels of trim and stability. In overpowered conditions, there are definitely other no-cam freeride sails out there that deliver more top-end speed, yet despite not accelerating further in gusts, the NCX never loses its composure or form. Ideal for light to medium weight riders (85kg or less), there is a lot of potential and versatility to champion from this well-mannered foil.

Verdict Very light and easy handling, the NCX is extremely versatile in style, stance, rider-weight and wind speed. Although initially a little technical to get the set right, It will power a wide variety of boards with excellent feedback, neutrality and comfort.

Intermediate Ideal: light in the hands and neutral at rest, making the sail feel smaller than it is.
Expert: Ultra light handling, with enough speed and stability for all but the most fanatical freerace sailor.
Plug Play: Easy to rig, and light to use, although a bit of experimenting is required initially to make the most of the tuning range available.
